Sleep is essential to staying alive.
Dreams mostly occur during REM (Rapid Eye Movement) sleep.
During REM sleep, the supply of neurotransmitters seratonin and norepinephrine is low, and acetylcholine courses through the brain.
The place/feeling between sleep and awake is called hypnagogia.
Dolphins "sleep" by relaxing one half of their brain; therefore, they are never wholly unconscious otherwise they would drown.
