To remember dreams
Tell yourself before sleeping that you're going to remember it.
When you wake up/gain consciousness, don't open your eyes right away.
Reminisce before getting out of bed.
Keep a dream journal and have extra time to write.
To lucid dream
Throughout the day, count your fingers. Out of habit, you might do the same while asleep and realize you're dreaming.
If you can, read any words around you in your dream. If you look back and it's different, you're dreaming.
What's sometimes difficult is staying asleep once realizing you are in a dream.
